October 16, 2026

This is the weekend New Orleans does Halloween the way only New Orleans can, with a parade, a film festival, and the last steins of Oktoberfest all at once. Costumes are not required, but around here they are strongly encouraged.

**New Orleans Film Festival,** Friday through Sunday, venues across the city. The Oscar-qualifying festival runs October 22 to 27, and the weekend is the heart of it. Screenings at the Contemporary Arts Center, The Broad Theater, the Prytania, The Historic New Orleans Collection, and the Civic Theatre, plus a free filmmaker conference with more than 40 panels and talks at the CAC hub. All Access Pass $350, Unlimited Film Package $99 ($85 for Film Society members), single tickets also available.

**Oktoberfest at Deutsches Haus,** Friday and Saturday, 1700 Moss Street. Last call for Oktoberfest. This is the final weekend on Bayou St. John, with bratwurst, sauerkraut, giant Bavarian pretzels, and more than 20 German beers. $10 cash at the gate, kids 12 and under free. When it ends Saturday night, it is gone until next October.

**Krewe of BOO! weekend,** Friday and Saturday, French Quarter and Warehouse District. The city’s official Halloween parade rolls Saturday, October 24 at 6:30 PM, free to watch, with big spooky floats, bands, and dance teams moving from Elysian Fields through the French Quarter to the Warehouse District. Start earlier if you like: Cocktails in the Courtyard at Pat O’Brien’s on Friday from 3 to 6 PM is free, the Zombie Run takes off Saturday morning at 9 AM, and the ticketed Monster Mash costume party follows the parade Saturday night at Generations Hall (8 PM to 2 AM, 18 and up).

**Treme Fall Fest,** Saturday 11 AM to 6 PM, around St. Augustine Church, Tremé. A free neighborhood festival in one of the oldest African American neighborhoods in the country. It opens with a second line at 11 AM, then live music, local food, art vendors, and church tours through the afternoon. Free and open to the public, donations support the neighborhood’s cultural landmarks.

**Crescent City Chamber Music Festival,** Friday and Sunday, free. Two free concerts close out this year’s festival. Friday at 7 PM the Manhattan Chamber Players play Dixon Hall at Tulane, and the season finale is Sunday at 4 PM at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, ending with Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Pre-concert talks start 30 minutes early. No tickets needed.

**Disney’s The Lion King,** Friday through Sunday, Saenger Theatre. The big touring production is in town October 21 to November 8, with performances all weekend. It is the family pick of the weekend if the little ones are not quite ready for a Halloween parade. Ticketed, check the Saenger box office for seats.

**CeCe Winans,** Saturday night, Smoothie King Center. If your Saturday night leans gospel instead of ghosts, CeCe Winans brings her Come Worship tour to the Smoothie King Center for one night only, with Charity Gayle, Terrian, and Red Worship. Ticketed.

**Olde Towne Slidell Zombie Crawl,** Friday 5 to 10 PM, Slidell (Northshore). Worth the drive across the lake: Olde Towne closes the streets for a free block party with costumes, trunk or treating, artisans, and live music. The Slidell antique street fair follows in the same historic district on Sunday, if you want a slower second trip.

## New at the table

**Holywater,** French Quarter, New Orleans. Oyster bar and Gulf seafood in a restored 1837 building at 622 Conti Street. It opened September 23, 2026, a homecoming for two New Orleans brothers who built their restaurant group in New York and finally opened the place they grew up dreaming about. Three levels, a mahogany and brass oyster bar downstairs, and a lounge up top for music.

**Kenji Kazoku,** Old Metairie. Upscale Japanese and sushi at 2929 Metairie Road, from the team behind Kenji Omakase. Dry-aged fish, premium seafood, and grilled wagyu in a polished room, and it is putting Old Metairie on the fine dining map. Opened April 29, 2026.

**Procida,** Marigny, New Orleans. Southern Italian cooking named for a small island off Naples, and one of the newest tables in the Marigny. It was featured as a new opening this month, with seafood risotto and lemon spaghetti among the early signatures.

**Sunday Saints watch.** Set the coffee on early. The Saints play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, October 25 at 8:30 AM CT on NFL Network, and the game is in Paris, at Stade de France, the first NFL regular season game ever played in France. New Orleans is the designated home team, so think of it as the world’s longest home game and a breakfast tailgate.

## Save the date

Halloween itself lands next Saturday, October 31. The New Orleans Ballet Theatre stages Dracula at the Orpheum October 29 to 31 (costumes encouraged), Halloween New Orleans runs its fundraising weekend October 30 to November 1 for Project Lazarus, and Widespread Panic plays two nights at the Lakefront Arena October 30 and 31. Beignet Fest follows on November 7 at City Park.

Weekends like this are the real argument for living here: a parade, a premiere, and a po’boy all within a few blocks of home. If you are ready for a New Orleans or Metairie address of your own, Harlow Realtors would love to help you find it.
